Reflection

Victory is not always immediate or dramatic. Sometimes it looks like persevering in faith, choosing forgiveness over bitterness and continuing to obey God when the way forward is unclear.

Hanukkah Day 6 Victory through God

Read the video transcript

On day six of Hanuka, we're focusing on Victory through God. In Exodus 14:14 it says: "The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still."

Hanuka celebrates a miraculous victory of the Macbes over a powerful enemy. This small band of faithful warriors, though vastly outnumbered and outarmed, triumphed because of their trust in the Lord. Their trust was not in their own strength, but in the power and the faithfulness of God. Their victory was a testimony of His sovereignty and of His ability to overcome impossible odds.

In our lives, we face battles that can feel overwhelming: conflicts and struggles, doubts and challenges that threaten to consume us. Like the Mabes, we may feel small and ill-equipped to handle the obstacles which are before us. But the story of Hanuka reminds us that the ultimate victory is not won by human effort alone. It is through God who fights for us, who strengthens us, and who leads us in triumph.

Victory through God doesn't always come in the way that we expect. It may not be immediate; it may require perseverance, faith, and surrender. Sometimes the greatest victories happen not in external circumstances, but within our own hearts: overcoming fear with courage, despair with hope, and bitterness with forgiveness. The key to victory is trusting God's presence and His power. Just as He parted the Red Sea for the Israelites and empowered the Mccabes to reclaim the temple, He is working in your life to bring you through the challenges that you face. Your role, your part, is to remain faithful, to trust in Him, and to move forward in obedience, even when the path seems uncertain.

Let's pray: Lord, thank You for being my defender, for being my strength. I surrender my battles to You, knowing that You are with me and that You are the one who helps me. Help me to trust in You and to trust in the power of Your love—the power of Your strength, rather than in my own abilities. Give me the courage to face each challenge, the faith to follow Your guidance, and the peace to rest in Your promises. I claim Your victory. In the name of Jesus I pray, amen.
