Hanukkah Day 5 Shining as a light

Our theme for the fifth day of Hanuka is shining as a light. "You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden." (Matthew 5:14)

Hanuka, the Festival of Lights, reminds us of the miracle of the manora—the light that continued to burn long after it should have run out. Just as the manora's light filled the temple, we are called to shine God's light in the world, reflecting His love and truth to those around us.

Jesus taught His disciples that they were the light of the world. This wasn't a suggestion; it was a declaration of their identity in Him. When we walk with Jesus, His light fills our hearts and overflows into our lives. Our actions, words, and attitudes become a testimony to God's goodness, illuminating the path for others to see Him.

In a world that often feels dark, full of fear, uncertainty, and pain, our light is needed more than ever. But being a light doesn't require perfection or grand gestures. It's in the small acts of kindness, the words of encouragement, the patience that we show, and the hope we carry that God's light shines brightly. Each of us has a unique opportunity to reflect this light in our families, our workplaces, and community.

Take a moment to consider how you can be a light today. Who in your life needs encouragement, a helping hand, a reminder of God's love? Whether it's through a gesture, a prayer, or simply being present, let your light shine in a way that brings hope and points others to Jesus.

Let's pray: Lord, thank You for calling me to be a light in this world. Help me to reflect Your love and Your truth in everything that I do. Fill me with Your Spirit so that Your light shines brightly through me, even in difficult moments. Show me how I can bring hope and encouragement to those around me. Use me to make a difference in someone's life today. Amen.
