A prayer for Rosh Hashanah and the year ahead
Father, as this new season begins, bring me back to what is true. Where my heart has become hard, soften it. Where disappointment has made me cynical, restore honest hope. Where I have sinned, give me courage to confess and turn rather than hide.
Teach me to hear the trumpet call as an invitation to wake up. Show me what deserves my attention and what has been stealing it. Help me distinguish urgency from obedience, noise from your voice, and prediction from genuine discernment.
I give you the seeds I cannot yet see growing. Protect me from digging them up through anxiety. Give me patience for roots, faithfulness in small beginnings and wisdom to tend what you have actually entrusted to me.
Where I need to repair a relationship, give me humility. Where I need a boundary, give me courage. Where I need to wait, give me peace. Where I need to act, make the next step clear enough to take.
Keep Jesus at the centre of my hope. Let every prophetic word be measured by Scripture and every dream be surrendered to your will. Make this year not merely a year of wanting more, but a year of becoming more faithful, more loving, more truthful and more alive to your presence.
Thank you that hidden does not mean forgotten, slow does not mean absent, and small does not mean insignificant. I trust you with what is beginning beneath the surface. Amen.
