Hanukkah Day 2 Faith in the face of difficulties

Welcome to day two of Hanuka. Today we're focusing on faith in the face of challenges. In Joshua 1:9 it says: "Be strong and courageous; do not be afraid, do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go."

The story of Hanuka reminds us of a small group of people who faced overwhelming odds. The Macbes, though vastly outnumbered, stood firm in their faith, refusing to compromise their devotion to God. They chose to trust in Him even when victory seemed impossible. Their courage wasn't born of their own strength, but of their unwavering belief that God was with them.

In our own lives, challenges may feel unsurmountable, like mountains—whether they are health struggles, financial burdens, broken relationships, or uncertainty about the future. Like the Macbes, we feel small and outnumbered by the difficulties before us. But God promises us the same thing as He promised Joshua: He is with us wherever we go.

Faith in the face of challenges does not mean ignoring the fear or pretending that the struggle isn't real. It means choosing to believe in God—that God is bigger than the challenge—stepping forward with courage, knowing that we don't walk alone. God is faithful to strengthen us and to guide us, no matter how difficult the journey may seem.

Take a moment today to bring your challenges to God in prayer. Ask Him for the courage to stand firm, the courage to trust in Him in the midst of uncertainty, that like the Mccabes you may stand firm knowing that the same God who fought for them is fighting for you.

Let's pray: Lord, I thank You for Your faithfulness in every season, that You are our strength and that You are our shield. When challenges feel overwhelming, remind us that You are with us. Help us to stand firm in faith, trusting that You are working all things for good. Give us courage and peace as we face this day, knowing that Your presence surrounds us. We place our trust in You and You this day. In the name of Jesus we pray, amen.
